Saturday 8th June promised to be a glorious summer's day. The field had been set out over the previous few evenings and there was a buzz in the air as last minute preparations were made to the stage and stalls around the arena.

Retiring Rose Queen Molly welcomed Queen Elect, Sophie Warburton and her retinue to the stage where Irene Peers crowned the Whitley Rose Queen for 2024.

The crowd were entertained with a fancy dress parade by pre-school children, singing from Whitley school and a display from the Dyas Lishman dancers.

The hot weather led to a rush on the ice-cream stall and the bar with people looking for shade under the trees and under the gazebos.
