WHITLEY ROSE QUEEN 2019

Another amazing turnout to the 72nd Whitley Rose Queen Day, despite the weather.

The wet weather plan swung into action with many stalls being inside the village hall and the procession walking directly from the school to the village hall, protected by many umbrellas.

A large crowd turned out to see the 2018 retiring retinue lead by Kristie Underdown and retinue, and witness the crowning of the new 2019 Rose Queen Laura Buckley by Chris Spittle, during this fabulous traditional village community event.

Music was again provided by the excellent Frodsham Silver Band, protected under one of the marquees, where the Pre-school held their fancy dress parade.  Whitley Village School showed their adaptability and ably gave their performance in the marquee in a much smaller area than I am sure they had rehearsed in. Congratulations to them all.

The dedicated Rose Queen Committee and many volunteers worked hard to make sure that everyone experienced their favourite stalls, raffle, barbecue, ice-cream and delicious cream teas, in spite of the weather.

The improvement in the weather saw many people head outside to try their hand at the coconut shy, smashing plates, fishing and all the other games. The Mutts in motion demonstration proved popular along with the great Whitley Pig race and Tug of War.

Sadly we missed out on the Lancaster fly-past due to the poor weather, but we were aware this could happen. Maybe another time!

Thank you to all those who supported this lovely event.

As always, The Rose Queen Committee would like to thank everyone who supported and helped out at this year’s event - we couldn't do it without you and we look forward to seeing you next year (provisional date 13th June 2020 – to be confirmed).

Congratulations Laura.    Have a great year as Whitley Rose Queen 2019
